Ocean Song 03:49
OCEAN SONG Thinking of you I want to see the seaweed dance A secret show for one Want to hear those sounds Those whispered words that I won’t know But there are cartoons in my head And ropes of plastics noodles Have me tied down to the chair To where I can’t do a thing To where you can’t do a thing Sleeping till noon I want to hear your creeping steps And not just in my head While on the other side I want to see the mainland strike I want to see a war So that it may drive you near But the birds drop from the sky And there’s nothing we can do No, there’s nothing we can do Thinking of you There are cartoons inside my head How I wish there’d be a war But I guess I’m being selfish I guess I’m just that way And the only thing that’s getting in the way is everything Making it to where I can’t do a thing To where you can’t do a thing

WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE AT THE END OF THE NIGHT Strong like poison, as sure as death Sleep comes only twice a week Strong like poison, as sure as death Reaching out in the night, never grab a thing And the cold night air wraps tight around your skin Like a leather glove or tender kiss Standing by the window, waiting for a sign Everybody’s frightened day by day Brushing off the stranger in the night That which you don’t know will eat your mind It’s a man’s best friend, or so I’ve heard But one couldn’t tell from the expression on your face Strong like poison, as sure as death Getting in the way of your experience Getting by on only ‘good enough’ Everybody’s frightened day by day Learn to sing the hymns of nostalgia Nevermind the fact that there is more Learning to embrace what you don’t know Your very own trip into the end of the night Mother, mother…hold me tight Sing me songs that everybody knows I can’t shake this strong feeling of fear Hold me till the end of the night

Kokeshi Doll 04:07
KOKESHI DOLL Armistice All the money’s gone Let’s talk things through Like the red bricks waiting in the wall for the hoisted rag – It’s demolition time! Should we sit around, or should we strike? I look, and they perceive They desire all the movements Of a man seen running down the street Turn the corner – hesitate What’s beyond the sea? Riding on an anchor with a spoon inside your shoe Just in case you change your mind K-girl on a bench She always takes one by surprise: Everything will turn out fine Always happy – happy people! Grab your spoon and go The time has come Pack your skin inside a suitcase The man comes ‘round again He desires all the clarity Of a man strolling down the street Turn the corner – hesitate What’s beyond the sea? Xylophone: exposed rib cage tune Played by beaks of bluebirds The man comes ‘round again: Efficiently, doubt and the infection of patience welcome me with open arms.

PARANOIA MAN IN A HOUSE OF SCUM I’ve created a new image of you today The active hands inside my skull sculpt a new hated figure of clay A hated face Though in the corner The disembodied voices speak – an actual, physical manifestation of reality Struggling with this effigy – Tied to a tree and set on fire! About 1700 miles, Four hours Whether measured in time or in space Distance is the catalyst for imagination The thin line between reality and imagination is blurred Wired by adrenaline <pitter-patter-pitter-patter> This mind runs wild… The skin melts off your face The eyes inside your skull are different than before Always running to the hole that’s yelled into But the lungs are filled with sand And so the body just swells up And sleep ain’t cheap And the bottle doesn’t do a fucking thing The axis of confrontation must have been disoriented Somewhere down the line… Now I lay me down to sleep Everything will be all right But still, will I be had? Will the fool stand in the corner With his head hung down in shame? With his head between his knees Should’ve gone with your first instinct You should’ve been a man A cop with his stick Look over your shoulder You should’ve been a man And always sleep with one eye open…
